Stress has been part of man’s life since creation. Some level of stress is necessary for one to succeed in life. There are times that one needs that extra adrenaline to perform some tasks successfully. Sometimes, stress helps get us out of trouble, as it can trigger the fight-or-flight response.
The world has faced so much turmoil in recent times. The rate of occurrence of both natural and manmade disasters appears unprecedented. To make matters worse, the global economy appears not to be in tandem with the survival of the human race. All these come with excessive stress, taxing one’s ability to cope. The resultant excessive stress has deleterious health consequences. In this talk, Professor Ani Etokidem will share his thoughts on how to cope with stress.
Professor Ani Etokidem has been active in stress management for over 10 years and coordinates the Nigerian branch of The International Stress Management Association [ISMAUK] . Professor Etokidem teaches Community Medicine and Public Health Medicine at the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Calabar. He is also a Chief Consultant Community/Public Health Physician at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria. He studied Medicine at the University of Calabar, Nigeria and was awarded the MBBCh degree. He later obtained the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDipMgt) from the same University.He had his Postgraduate Medical Residency Training at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and was awarded the Fellowship of the Medical College in Public Health (FMCPH) in 2008.
Ani Etokidem is a Past President, RC Hilltop, Calabar and Past District Chairman of the Rotary Foundation Family Health Days,) District 9140 ( later split into 9141/9142 ) Nigeria, Past Rotary International State Polio Representative, Cross River State and Past Rotary International State Chairman, Cervical Cancer Screening and Immunization Committee.
